True Mid-Century 1955 “Kraka” Bowl Orrefors Sven Palmqvist. She started collecting in the early 1980’s and never stopped until the very end… This is a stunning piece of mid-century Orrefors dating from 1955. It measures 8″ in diameter, 2.75″ in height and weighs 5.2 LBS. It is an early, large and beautiful blue “Kraka” bowl by world renowned glass artist Sven Palmqvist. This bowl an exquiste example of the skillful artistry he preformed at ORREFORS GLASSWORKS in Sweden. This bowl, internally decorated with an intricate fishnet pattern is truly terrific in all aspects. The blue net surrounds amber diamonds, each with a single trapped air bubble. Unfortunately my photos can’t do any justice to this visually enticing and fascinating object. Luckily “Kraka” glass is very well documented in glass literature, so pictures of this great bowl can be seen elsewhere. Both eye-catching and breathtaking with it’s undulating shape, this bowl will become an asset to any “Scandinavian Modern” glass collection. This “Kraka” bowl is fully signed with the following engraved inscription on the bottom: ORREFORS Kraka Pu 343 (which dated it to 1955), and of course the artist’s signature, Sven Palmqvist. Exceptional Vintage Mid-Century Amber Colour Sommerso Style Art Glass Bowl by Chalet dating from c. This bowl was hand-produced, designed and executed by master Murano glass blowers who immigrated to this reputed Canadian studio during the 1960’s. This bowl is among the more impressive designs we have seen from Chalet. Lt features a beautiful and sophisticated three-sided form with joined pointed elements in a stunning amber colour with clear glass components around the base, sides and tips. The bowl measures approximately 10″ length by 10″ width by 5.25 height with a thick glass density. The bowl is in excellent condition, clean with no damages. A pair of hand blown Cenedese Glass penguins. Both pieces are in fantastic condition with no chips or cracks. Each penguin has been handmade and varies ever so slightly but they each stand approximately 275mm tall. Made of heavy, high-quality Venetian glass the pair weighs approximately 1.75 Kgs. The most ancient foundations of a glass factory in the Venetian area have been found in Torcello, dating back to the 600s, while the most ancient document concerning glass making in Murano dates back to 982. Murano’s glass makers were the islands most prominent citizens. By the 14th century, glass makers were allowed to wear swords, enjoyed immunity from prosecution by the Venetian state, and found their daughters married into Venices most affluent families. The island of Murano was even granted to coin currency. However, glass makers were not allowed to leave the Republic in order to safeguard the secrets of their art. After the Republic ended (1797), the rebirth of glass making took place in the second half of the 19th century, when glass makers elaborated new techniques that are still today employed in modern glass making, crafting everything from classic and contemporary art glass to chandeliers and sculptures. Modern glass making took off in the first decade of the 20th century, and during the 1920s the collaboration with designers and artists started. Murano glass making is still one of the handicrafts most closely connected to the world of art and design, as well as being the one of the most respectful of manual character of the craft. Still producing to this day the Murano region is responsible for much of the worlds most highly prized art-glass. Cenedese Glass is considered by many as one of the most iconic makers of the 1950s and 60s. They are responsible for producing some of the highest-quality and most striking pieces of art glass created during this period.
