Remarkably the Tumblers have all of their faceted 3 dimensional glass jewels that are colored, amber, blue, green, and red. This set will make a wonderful addition to your collection. Handwash Only and Never use any Citrus dish detergent ie:(lemon, orange, grapefruit). The Culver Glass Company’s (Brooklyn, NY) first run of Mardi Gras pattern glassware was between 1959 and 1962. The design consisted of flat gold leaf & rhinestone jewels. It appears there were comparitively few of these made. Later versions had a thicker, textured gold pattern. The glasses for sale here are the earlier and rarer flat gold design. Variations of this pattern include the figures backed in blue, gold or black. These are blue backed. Early-production Mardi Gras glasses are growing rarer with time. Early on, Culver perfected the (still) secret process of high heat firing 22k Gold onto glassware, allowing for finely textured gold & rhinestone displays that withstood the years. The secret process of heat firing 22k Gold to glass died 2001, along with the last known member of the family involved with the business. These will be double boxed in all new boxes and new packing materials and fully insured for safe transport. The measurements are 4″ tall, 3 7/8″ across the top, 2 3/8 across the base and the set weighs 2 lbs and 10 oz. The condition is very good preowned and the glass is clear and glossy with very occasional light scratches. The gold decoration is in very good condition with some small losses mostly at the horn player’s hat on three of the glasses as pictured and also on the decoration between two figures as pictured on those same three glasses. The fourth glass has a little gold loss on the waist of a figure and also on the decoration between two figures as pictured. All the jewels are present and in excellent condition.
