Welcome to UpStaged Vintage. This listing includes FREE UK P&P. This is a truly magnificent large 1950s Mid-Century atomic ceiling light fixture from the foyer of a cinema. Well, it was found in the store room of a closed down bingo club, which was a cinema from 1948 to 1981 and prior to that it was a theatre. A central metal plate connects 6 brass arms, each with 3 gold tone aluminium cone to cover the bulb holder and the pink shapely striped glass shades. The shades are the kind of fleshy pink that only seemed to exist in the 1950s. There is actually a 7th bulb holder in the centre of the plate but this is slightly larger than the other 6 and I don’t have a shade ring the right size to demonstrate and photograph it. But I do have the shade with the larger hole so it will come with 7 shades. It will need rewiring before it could be used again as the wiring is very old and fabric coated. I don’t know for sure how it fixes to a ceiling. You will need a qualified professional electrician to rewire and fit this light and If you have any concerns about safety you should also get it PAT tested once it is in situe. A fantastic authentic vintage decorators piece. It will look stunning in any large mid-century space and could be suspended either way up. A great gift for anyone with 1950s mid-century atomic style decor and a taste for oversized lighting. It an ideal prop for any Mid Century period production and would be a real statement piece in a bar, restaurant or shop, especially if you had all 3 of them! Will need rewiring but In VERY GOOD physical vintage condition considering the age. The shades are clean with no cracks or large chips, though some of them have minor nibbles on the edge of the hole where they fit to the brass, but they are still secure and it doesn’t show with the cones in place. There are also a couple of tiny spots of paint on some parts, which will come off. It will definitely need rewiring as the wires are old and fabric coated and these will not be suitable for current safety standards. Please remember it is over 60 years old and has been used in the past. Approx measurements: 30″ (76 cm) across x 11½” (29 cm) deep. Each shade is 6″ (15 cm) tall x 5″ (12.5 cm) diameter at the widest part.
