He changed his name to Jascha (Yascha) Brojdo when he moved to Chicago in 1937 to study at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned his MFA. After serving in the U. Army throughout World War II he moved to New York and began painting metal serving trays signing them Brodjo. He was hired by his friend to create designs for the M. Wille Company, who came up with the name Georges Briard to mark commercial pieces. As Georges Briard, Brodjo became an American award-winning designer, his designs stocked at high end department stores, such as Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller. Georges Briard designs became hugely popular throughout the 1950s to 70s, so it is prominent through many eras, but is most notable for the Mid Century Modern, Atomic & later 70s Kitsch designs. In 2004, Brodjo was awarded the Frank S. Child Lifetime Achievement Award by The Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorators, in honor of his extraordinary contributions to the glass and ceramic decorating industry. Offering 12 fantasticly elegant handmade/blown Murano stems… These superb glasses are each signed “Murano” and further signed by the artist who made them…. I have not been able to distinguish the name of the studio and artist, but their amazing’ under stated’ elegance speaks’clearly’! These glasses are delicately proportioned out of flawless clear hand blown crystal that is nearly paper thin. Are detailed with lovely hollow stems that rise to gold infused swirl twist knobs at stem tops. They are perfectly balanced in their graceful simplicity and will please the most rarefied aesthetics of the glass art connoisseur. And the wine connoisseur as well by how they completely reveal through their flawless clarity the deep rich colors of any of the World’s finest wines. These are’world class’ glasses. The goblets are 7″ tall x 3 1/2″ diameter… The wines are 6 1/4″ tall and are 3 1/2″ in diameter. The Japanese have a wonderful word.. Broadly meaning simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty…. Years ago, my teacher in the decorative arts added to this meaning these thoughts: Something utterly’complete.. I think these amazing examples of Venetian glass well fit such a nuanced description!
