Designed by Timo Sarpaneva and manufactured in Iittala glassworks throughout 1960s and 1970s. The i-color was created by adding gray to main colors of blue, purple and green. Idea behind Sarpaneva’s i-color series was to create colorful glassware that would react when added liquid inside. As light travels through the liquid and the glass itself, both being reflective materials, the out-traveling light becomes more intensified. In 1950’s Sarpaneva’s aim was to design a glassware that would have the hand feel, and the aesthetics, of an immaterial object which he in my opinion succeeded with many of his i-glassware. Aroma the ball shaped tumbler, while resting in your hand, disappears as an object but continues to offer the immaterial frames for the liquid you are enjoying. Great as an aromatic drinking glass, snifter or all-around tumbler. In great used condition without any chips missing, glass sickness or deep scratches. Only minimal signs of use. 7 cm (2’75).
